We’re taking a moment to honor a heroic Texas-based mother who lost her life after saving her infant child in a fire. Despite saving her child, however, the woman died trying to save her disabled mom from the same fire.
Tina Mercer, a 41-year old woman, called 911 after discovering that the family home was on fire. Her mother Linda Scott and the baby were both inside the home at the time.

Tina ran back inside and managed to save her child. Tragically, when she went in to save her 65-year-old disabled mother, she did not make it back out and they both perished inside the home that was engulfed in flames and smoke.
She is survived by her husband and three additional children who were not inside the home at the time of the fire. Investigators do not yet know what caused the house fire.
The Mabank school district shared a post to Facebook recognizing the tragedy.
“Yesterday a family with 4 children in school suffered a tragic loss when their home caught fire. We are working with several organizations to assist the family. There will be a great needs as they prepare funeral expenses and try to recover.”
