Willow Smith couldn’t be more proud of her mom and dad for the way they handled talking about Jada’s past relationship with August Alsina. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith felt compelled to address the relationship Jada had with Alsina while she and Will were on a break from their marriage.
The reason they felt compelled to reveal that time in their lives is because Alsina had talked about their secret affair during an Interview with Angela Lee that was shared on YouTube. During his conversation with Lee, Alsina said “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. And I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for [Jada].”
Shortly after his interview went viral, Jada and Will sat down at the red table and had a discussion about that time in their life that they would then upload on to Facebook so that their fans could hear the full story. As Jada explained, four or four-and-a-half years ago, she and Alsina became “really, really good friends.”
Initially, when Alsina came into Jada and Will’s life he was very sick and Jada wanted to help. However, at that same time, Will admitted that he “was done” with Jada and their marriage was in a bad place.
“We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time, and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy.” It was during that time that her relationship with Alsina turned romantic, but she would soon find her way back to Will.
“I was in a lot of pain, and I was very broke,” Jada said of that time in her life. Nonetheless, the famous couple worked it out and have been married for the last 23 years.
Willow Smith Applauds Mom and Dad for How They Handled the Situation
In a new Red Table Talk episode, Willow Smith let her mom know how proud she was of her. “I want to put it on the table. I’m so proud of you. To be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, ‘OK, that’s the real deal.’ That’s real love.”
Jada went on to describe how breaking her silence about her and Alsina’s romance made her feel. She said it was like “a full blast of, like, flaws, and feeling and just the total breakdown of any mask.”
But for Willow Smith, she learned relationship lessons in seeing her parents talk so candidly and publicly about that time in their marriage. “Like, when you can be like, ‘I’m with you. I’m going to stand by you and I’m going to hold your hand’… that’s really important.'”
