Will Smith is showing his appreciation and support for his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, as she continues to promote her life story – which is being told in her upcoming memoir, Worthy, (to be released on Oct. 17). The 55-year-old I Am Legend actor recently sent an email to the New York Times to share his feelings.
In the letter, he talked about how his wife’s revelations and recollections woke him up in a way and helped him realize that Jada was much more ‘resilient, clever and compassionate’ than he had ever understood. Of course, Jada’s recent press tour comes at a very vulnerable and sensitive time for the powerful duo.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in,” he continued in the emotional letter, which was published by the New York Times in an article on Saturday (Oct 14). “And you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”

For those who need a refresher (or context), Jada Pinkett Smith is about to release her newest memoir – Worthy – on October 17. The 52-year-old has been promoting the book over the past week with a flurry of podcast appearances and interviews – where she discusses some of the newest revelations in the book.
Those revelations have resulted in a number of headlines that have helped to shed light on the status of her marriage to Will Smith and the events that unfolded before, during, and after the infamous ‘Oscars Slap’ at last year’s Academy Awards – where Will slapped Chris Rock for cracking a joke about Jada.
Jada revealed that she and Will have been separated since 2016 (seven years ago) and confirmed that they’ve been living completely different lives since then – which is why she was so stunned to hear Will call her his wife when yelling at Chris. Of course, Jada says she’s going to continue to stand by his side.
And, while she says they do act and behave like they’re divorced, they have no plans of divorcing anytime soon and are still legally together. Jada credits a promise she made Will years ago that there would never be a reason why they should need to get a divorce. She doesn’t seem to want to break that promise.
Will Smith Applauds His Wife After Reading Her Memoir
On Saturday (Oct. 14), Jay Shetty – the host of On Purpose with Jay Shetty – posted a teaser to an upcoming podcast episode that features none other than Jada Pinkett Smith. In the episode, Jay and Jada ‘talk about ways you can heal your past and start loving yourself again,’ as well as the ‘Oscars Slap.’
At one point in the interview, Shetty reads Jada a letter that was written by Will Smith – it’s unclear the nature of the letter or the context behind the letter. It shows the amount of love and appreciation Will has for Jada, even in the midst of all their turmoil, speculation, controversy, and everything else in-between.
“I applaud and honor you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would’ve hugged you more. I’ll start now. Welcome to the Authors Club. I love you endlessly. Now go get some Merlot and take a rest,” he writes in the letter. I’m sure we’ll get some more context on Oct. 17 when the interview drops in full.
