Weighing in at just under 12 pounds and 21 inches — the little boy shocked everyone with his stunning bright white hair.
After the couple’s shock subsided, his parents and doctors believed the next best step was to test his vitals to make sure he was really as healthy as he could be. Thankfully, all the tests came back positive and the little Bence was completely healthy. However, the couple was still confused as to why their baby’s hair was so white.

Doctors then believed that Bence could have albinism.
Albinism is a congenital disorder which prevents the human body from creating melanin – a pigment which determines hair color, eye color, and skin color. And while the little boy did not check all the boxes of characteristics associated with albinism, his stunning white hair color did. To get an official answer, doctors tested Bence’s blood and melanin levels.

Dr. Zoltan Kummer, The main doctor in charge of Bence’s case was who, after testing Bence’s blood, found that his blood did carry the low levels of melanin synonymous with albinism.
He concluded that this low level was a definitive contributing factor to Bence’s unique hair color. But Bence’s skin was unlike any other albino case as he was not missing the pigment in his skin – only in his hair.

Doctors then began to speculate that his hair may not be the direct cause of Albinism but actually something else. And while the white hair was not an easy or quick diagnosis, Dr. Kummer believed the pigment in his hair is only temporary and over time, his melanin levels would increase.
Thankfully, this was a relief for Bence’s parents.
