On March 8, Florida police made an image and surveillance video public. The image and video were of a man who was a person of interest in one of their murder investigations.
According to WCVB, a husband and wife were stabbed to death while biking home in Daytona Beach. The man in the images may have had something to do with it.
Police had no idea that a waitress who served the man food just three days earlier would be the witness they needed to capture the suspect.

While talking with WCVB, Valerie Court immediately recognized the man police were looking for. She had waited on him on Saturday, March 5 and he paid for his meal with a credit card.
It was with that credit card number that police were able to track down the man who signed the receipt with his initials, J.M. Or as the public now knows him, Jean Macean.

Court recalled the moment she waited on Macean. According to WCVB, he was wearing the same outfit in the images that police shared with the public. He had sat at one of her tables for a late lunch and was carrying a backpack.
Court said she didn’t have much of a conversation with Macean. “I thought maybe he wanted to be left alone because he was short-worded with me so I just kept his tea filled up,” she said.
Macean then paid for his meal and left. “It didn’t have his name on it. It said my temporary pay card but he did initial sign it and initial it JM,” she said.
What Court didn’t know is that hours after serving Macean he would reportedly attack and kill Terry and Brenda Aultman. According to police, Terry and Breana were stabbed to death while riding their bikes home.
Court admits she is “chilled” by her interaction with someone she had no idea would allegedly kill two people.
Thanks to Court’s stellar memory, police traced Macean to somewhere in Orlando and made a successful arrest. “I wanted to catch this guy. I wanted to help the police department and help the community and catch him and get him. I knew I had valuable information. I’m very happy that I was able to help them get a dangerous person off the street.”
While it was Court’s tip that ultimately led to Macean’s capture, she contacted the authorities before a $50,000 reward was offered to the public for information leading to his arrest. Because of that technicality, police haven’t determined if they will offer the reward to Court.
However, as Court told WCVB, she didn’t help out the police for the money. “I didn’t do it for the reward, I did it for the police department to help get a dangerous person off the street,” she said.
It remains unclear why Macean allegedly killed Terry and Breana Aultman or if he knew them personally. According to Terry and Breana’s daughter, Sara Turner said her parents loved riding bikes.
They loved bike week and they were just so excited to have their dream home a block from the beach and to just live the dream life. This was going to be their forever home,” Turner said.
Macean, 32, has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, WESH reports. “He’s not a person, a monster. Get this monster off the streets so that nobody else would get hurt,” Turner said at a Daytona Beach police news conference.
According to police, the surveillance video they have of Macean was taken from cameras on multiple homes near the area where the couple was killed. Sara now hopes to look Macean in the eye to let him know that he “destroyed and broken a lot of people for no reason. It just doesn’t make any sense.”
