Do you ever wonder how long fast food can really last? One TikTok-famous grandma proves it can last over 24 years.
TikTok user @aly.sherb posted a video of the woman gently opening a shoebox containing a McDonald’s meal in its original packaging from 1996. She points to an advertisement on the brown bag for a NASCAR race from that year. She starts the reveal by showing off a small pouch of fries that she says “look like they could have fallen under your seat a month or so ago.”

And then she unwraps the hamburger to show that the bun and meat have never decayed. She says, “the bun has never molded and the meat has never rotted. It’s never even broken – it’s completely intact.”

McDonald’s recently responded to the viral video with a statement on their website, with the first sentence stating “In the right environment, our burgers, like most other foods, could decompose.” Could? Okay…

The statement goes on to explain the science of how things get moldy (hint: moisture is needed) and tries to compare their burgers to home-cooked food. Maybe they should have just gone with something more humorous, like “Our food is timeless” and left it at that.
Surprisingly, there were no toppings on the woman’s burger, which begs the question – did she order a plain burger with plans to save it? Or did she get rid of the toppings because they decayed? We may never know. But at least we now know what a 24-year-old McDonald’s meal looks like.
