Vili Fualaau Speaks About Mary Kay Letourneau’s Last Moment and Their Relationship on The Dr. Oz Show

When Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau first got involved with one another, Faulaau was just 12 years old and Letourneau was his 34-year-old sixth-grade teacher. Now, in an interview with Dr. Oz, Fualaau said if he ever found himself attracted to a 13-year-old he would have sought help.

Fualaau is now in his thirties, around the same age his late ex-wife was when she first rapped him. As a result, Dr. Oz asked the father of two, point-blank, how he would react if he ever found himself attracted to a 13-year-old.

Vili Fualaau responded by saying, “I’d probably go and seek some help. I couldn’t look at a 13-year-old and be attracted to that, because it’s just not in my brain. It’s nothing that I’m attracted to. I mean, we all have our preferences, and that’s just not something that I would go towards.”

By the age of 15, Fualaau and Letourneau had two children together. Following a seven-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to statutory rape, Letourneau reunited with Fualaau and became husband and wife in 2005.

And although they were divorced in 2017, when Letourneau was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, Fualaau had become her main caretaker before she passed in July 2020. The 58-year-old remained a registered sex offender until the day she passed.

In his interview with Dr. Oz, Fualaau revealed the last thing Letourneau said to him. “She said, ‘I am the most important person to her and everything is going to be okay.'” However, an emotional Fualaau admitted that he doesn’t know if everything is going to be okay.

“It was devastating because the reality is you’re not going to see the person who has been there for you the most,” he said Fualaau said he was there with their youngest daughter and Letourneau’s youngest daughter from her first marriage when she took her last breath.

He went on to admit that he misses her very much. The dad admitted that his girls are handling their mother’s death well, quite frankly he said, they are doing better than he is. However, he did admit he couldn’t speak for them fully, as they are their own people.

The father was also asked by Dr. Oz how he would react if one of his two daughters ever found themselves in a situation like he was in at the age of 12. Fualaau candidly admitted that he wouldn’t look at it the same way as someone else would, but he would be curious as to what the man’s intentions were, who he is, and more. “I’d find out a little bit more before putting my foot down.”

Vili Fualaau also opened up about how he feels his late ex-wife is portrayed in the media. And while he says there was no “perversion” on her part, he also admits that there is nothing he can say that would change someone’s mind who doesn’t want to learn or listen. “We had a whole life together.”
