Valerie Bertinelli recently shared a heartbreaking video about wrestling with her body image.
“I’m standing out in the rain because I’m doing my best to distract my mind from spiraling to a place of self-loathing, because I saw a picture of myself today that made me want to do that,” Bertinelli shared in a video posted to her Instagram on Friday.

Bertinelli, 61, revealed that she is not happy with her body and that she is not sure if she will ever get to a place of contentment.
“I am not where I want to be right now, body-wise. I don’t know if I ever will be, but when I see it right in front of me, it really does send me down that path,” Bertinelli said.
“And I am doing my best to be positive and more full of joy and hopefully my body will follow along. I’m not there yet.”
Bertinelli went on to give herself encouragement, adding how she won’t “focus on all the shortcomings and flaws and imperfections.”

“We can all give ourselves permission to feel joy, be intentional about it, and remember to be grateful,” she said, “I am grateful, even through all the mess. ‘Cause there’s still good in all the mess.”
Jamie Lee Curtis went on to quote the “Desiderata – Words for Life,” in part, saying:
“Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.”
Last summer, she shared a video sharing how hurtful it was to see that people had commented she “needed to lose weight” next to a recipe she had posted online.
“Because see, I don’t have a scale or I don’t have clothes that I’m trying to put on every day, and I don’t have mirrors so I don’t see what’s become of me,” she shared at the time. “So I needed that help to let me know that I need to lose weight.”
She continued, “You’re not being helpful. Because when you see somebody who has put some weight on, my first thought is, ‘That person is obviously going through some things.’”
