Unresponsive Baby Opens Eyes Just As Parents Say Their Final Goodbyes and Doctors Turn Off Life Support

Parents Chelsea and Greg experienced a true miracle when their baby boy Oscar opened his eyes as they were saying what was expected to be their final goodbye.

The unresponsive baby, Oscar, who is now 18-months-old, was put on life support after being born unconscious. The doctors shared the heartbreaking news with his parents that he would likely only live for minutes.

The unresponsive child was removed from his incubator handed to his parents in the Leicester Royal Infirmary bereavement room. Chelsea decided to FaceTime her mother so that she could also say goodbye to her grandson.

A short time into the call, Oscar, who was snuggled on his mother’s chest, shocked everyone by opening his eyes.

“As we were talking she saw Oscar open his eyes and she just screamed,” Chelsea shared with the Leicester Mercury. “His eyes were open for the first time and it was so surreal – it felt like a dream.”

“I sat on the bed and shook my head like people do in films. It was amazing — the best feeling in the world — but I had to pinch myself.”

“He’s 18 months old now and he’s like a baby aged under three months but he smiles and he laughs and he loves lights, despite being partially blind,” Chelsea said. “He really likes being held and he babbles a lot.”

Oscar has been diagnosed with epilepsy and was recently admitted to an intensive care unit.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to have with him but while he’s here I feel he should have everything – especially after all he’s been through.”
