Despite playoffs looming on the horizon, Travis Kelce is putting the people of Kansas City first.
According to reports, Kelce and his foundation, 87 & Running, helped fund money for Gloria White to fix up her home. According to KSHB 41, White is a former athlete whose home fell into disrepair.
It was with Kelce’s help and donation that allowed Rebuilding Together Kansas City to help White out by funding the cost of her repairs.
In an interview with KSHB 41, executive director of Rebuilding Together Kansas City, Scott Hickox, said the house needed a lot of TLC. “When we looked at her home, we realized there were lots of other things she needed — a new roof, she needed gutters, she needed safety latches on the doors, she needed work in the bathroom and kitchen.”
But despite the state of her home, White was “determined” to stay in her home rather than move somewhere else. “I’ve been here 56 years,” White told KSHB. “They know Miss Gloria. I am about people.”
Kelce had learned about White’s needs through former Chiefs player Otis Taylor. Taylor is married to one of White’s relatives.
And as soon as Kelce learned of White’s needs, the star athlete didn’t hesitate to cover the costs. “For Travis to care enough and his foundation to care enough about his community and what’s happening in Kansas City, this meant the world he could partner with us.”
White was the first Black cheerleader at her Topeka, Kansas middle school before later going on to compete at the Olympic Trials. How amazing is that?
