Tori Roloff‘s daughter, Lilah, recently turned one, and to celebrate the event, the mom invited a small number of family members over to mark the occasion. Family gatherings and parties are being deeply discouraged by the CDC as the spread of COVID-19 is completely out of control across the country.
Fans didn’t get mad about the Roloff gathering, but they did find a certain party favor rather “tone-deaf” considering the climate we’re in. Although Tori made the party favor, grandpa, Matt Roloff was the one who shared an image of it on his Instagram page. It isn’t going over too well.
To celebrate Lilah’s first birthday, Tori Roloff hosted a small gathering and handed out a party favor that fans aren’t happy about.
The favor came in the form of an adorable photo of Lilah in the family’s pumpkin patch. There’s nothing wrong with the photo, it’s the text around it that fans are angry about. “You came to my birthday during a pandemic?! You must love me!” the favor reads.
As many of us try to follow the leadership of our federal and local public health authorities and elected leaders to prevent more devastation from a pandemic that’s killed a quarter-million Americans, caused an economic crisis, and upended our lives as we know it, some people did not find Tori’s joke too funny.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, fans on Reddit were upset by the joke, with one writing, “If high-risk grandparents don’t come to your kid’s first birthday, which she will hardly remember, they don’t love you and her enough?!! Stupid.”
Others called the joke “tone-deaf” and pointed to the staggering record-breaking infections we’re saying on a daily basis.
CafeMom did a deep dive into the photos from the event and came to the conclusion that Tori and Zach invited Lilah’s grandparents over (Matt & Amy), plus Matt’s girlfriend, Caryn. CafeMom notes that members of the family are still filming Little People, Big World, which would mean they’ve likely been following precautions and everyone here is likely part of their bubble.
Even if that’s the cause is still doesn’t excuse a joke made in poor taste.

It’s been a very stressful year for for all of us, so it’s understandable that someone would want to blow of a little steam. Whether or not the joke upset you, we do hope the Roloff’s are taking this pandemic seriously and not putting their own personal frivolity ahead of others’ safety. There’s no evidence from our vantage that they have, but this virus is serious.
With a vaccine or two on the horizon, these sorts of issues will become a thing of the past and we can’t wait for the day when we can all be together again. We sincerely hope the Roloff’s enjoyed their time together. We also hope that celebrities and others will do their best to show all of their fans that making the right decision is best for us all.
