Legendary Actor Tom Selleck Has Done A Lot in His Life But He’s NEVER Done This

Legendary actor Tom Selleck has done a lot in his 79 years of life.

He’s starred in several television shows, traveled, married his wife after meeting her in London 40 years ago, he became a father, and now he’s writing a book about all those endeavors and more.

But there is one thing he’s admittedly never done and it’s safe to say, the millennial in me is shocked.

While talking with People, Selleck admitted he’s never sent a text or an email in all his years. Seriously. In fact, he says he stays away from technology all together, when he can.

“Occasionally I’ve looked up my name,” Selleck told People. “That started really with the book, but I’ve never sent my own email. I had a secretary. I’ve never texted anybody.”

And while he does have a phone capable of texting, Selleck admitted that if anyone has ever received a text from him, it was really the work of his wife, sending a response on his behalf.

“I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise,” Selleck confesses. “But I don’t know. I have a hard time writing things down, which is weird for a guy who’s pushing a book.”

Selleck’s memoir You Never Know is set to hit bookstands in less than a month on May 7.

He tells People that his path to Hollywood isn’t the usually story, which he describes in his upcoming book. Instead he says his rather successful career as an actor was an “accident.”

“I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do,” he says. “I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.”

He also discusses his reason for leaving the show that made him a household name, Magnum, P.I. According to Selleck, he “got off that train” after his then-3-year-old daughter was diagnosed and hospitalized with viral pneumonia.

As he continued to tell People, at the same time all of this was happening he was also scheduled to begin his 1992 movie with Marlon Brando, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery.

Selleck said he stuck to his word only traveling to set after his daughter was out of the hospital. But he admits it “wasn’t worth it.”

“It was never going to be worth it,” Selleck insists. “And I said, this is crazy. I quit Magnum really, to have a family, and now I’m jumping at every movie that comes along.”

Now, Selleck lives a quiet life, though still starring in television shows, with his wife on their California ranch. “I’ve had a very good life,” he reiterates.
