Ever since Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn ACL four minutes into his debut with the New York Jets on September 11, football fans have been wondering what’s next for the team – more specifically, what they should do at the QB position. Of course, there’s one name that’s been floating around – Tom Brady.
Brady might be retired at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped him from making a return in the past. For those who haven’t followed him over the past few years, he originally retired in February 2022 before announcing his return just 40 days later. He then retired ‘for good’ at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
Since then, he has devoted himself to his family and his many business ventures – which include him becoming a part owner in the Birmingham City football (soccer) team, the Las Vegas Aces’ WNBA team, and the Las Vegas Raiders’ NFL team. He also has a popular podcast on SiriusXM called Let’s Go!.
It was on that podcast – which also features future Hall of Fame wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, and popular sportscaster, Jim Gray – that he was asked about the prospect of joining the New York Jets to replace Aaron Rodgers, who isn’t expected to return to the field until next season (if not the playoffs).
“The question everybody has been wondering is have the Jets called and are you considering the Jets?” Jim Gray asked Tom Brady during a recent Let’s Go! episode on Monday (September 18). In typical Brady fashion, he gave his fellow host an open-ended answer. “Next question,” he said without hesitation.
“Asked and answered?” Gray continued – wondering if there was anything he would like to add. “You already know. I love being with you guys on Mondays and I love what we got going,” Brady responded – neither confirming nor denying the Jets calling him. Either way, Brady doesn’t appear to be interested.
It would certainly be interesting to see him in a Jets’ uniform, though – especially since he spent the first 20 seasons of his career playing for their rival, the New England Patriots. Brady played 37 games against the Jets and had a 30-7 record in those games – he threw for 9,059 yards and 60 TDs against the Jets.
Would Tom Brady Fix the New York Jets’ QB Situation?
The New York Jets thought they had their quarterback problems solved when they traded for Aaron Rodgers in late-April, but that plan immediately backfired when Rodgers suffered a season-ending surgery just four minutes into their Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.
Zach Wilson – who was the team’s starter for most of the past two seasons after they drafted him No. 2 overall in 2021 – immediately took over starting duties and led the Jets to a win. It didn’t last long, though. The Jets got clobbered by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 and Wilson didn’t look like a long-term solution.
That’s why so many are calling for the Jets to make a move for a quality quarterback who can lead them to the playoffs – after all, they’re supposed to have a roster that’s built to win now (if they have a good QB). While Tom Brady can definitely step in and play well, there are probably better options out there.

One name that many people are throwing around is Kirk Cousins – who currently plays for the Minnesota Vikings, but has had one foot out the door for several years. Of course, that’s unlikely to happen because head coach Robert Saleh recently said the team is committed to riding Zach Wilson the rest of the year.
