Rapper and producer T.I. is giving every dad in the world a crash course in what not to do as a father of a daughter.

In an interview with Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham on their podcast, Ladies Like Us, the father revealed that he used to take his now 18-year-old daughter Deyjah Harris to her gynecology appointments. And at those appointments, he would make sure his daughter signed a form allowing the doctor to share personal information he learned during their check-up with him.

And while that all seems relatively normal for a father to do if he’s worried about his daughter’s health, he then tells Mandi and Moham that the reason why he had his daughter sign the form is so that doctor examining his teenage daughter would “check [her] hymen,” and “give me back my results expeditiously.”

T.I. continued:

“Not only have we had the conversation — we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen. Yes, I go with her. […] So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor comes and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism. He’s like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain’t no problem.'”

So instead of just asking his daughter if she’s a “virgin,” he dragged her to a gynecologist the day after her sixteenth birthday to have her examined. “I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

And the thousands of people who listen to this particular episode of the Ladies Like Us podcast were floored by T.I.’s story.

Look, he’s a father who wants what is best for his daughter, who probably thought he was keeping her safe and making sure she’s not making any bad decisions at a young age. But what’s also not okay is that T.I. should not have made his daughter’s private business public on a podcast interview where she wasn’t present.

Deyjah has yet to respond publicly to her dad’s comments on the podcast. However, as Buzzfeed reports, the college-student was seen liking some tweets that criticized her father’s actions.

Below are some of the tweets she “liked”:

Less than 48 hours after the podcast went live, the hosts of the show took down T.I.’s episode. The hosts themselves, as Buzzfeed reports, also received backlash for the episode because they laughed in response to T.I.’s story rather than defend Harris.

In 2018, the World Health Organization called to end “virginity testing.” The organization described it as “a violation of the human rights of girls and women, and can be detrimental to women’s and girls’ physical, psychological and social well-being.”

What do you think about T.I.’s actions, and on top of that, do you think he should have shared that with the public?
