It appears as though Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, is determined to have a relationship with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. And he’s willing to ask the courts for help making that happen.
According to E! News, Thomas Markle has reportedly started the process of taking his own daughter to court in an effort to be able to see his grandchildren. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, have just welcomed their second child into the world in June, a daughter they named Lilibet Diana.
Thomas Markle Says He Is Getting Ready to Petition the Courts for a Relationship With His Grandchildren
While talking with Fox News, Thomas Markle claimed that he “will be petitioning the California courts for the rights to see my grandchildren in the very near future.” So far, Meghan and Harry have not yet responded to his claims.

Thomas continued by adding that he believes his daughter and his son-in-law have shown “bad behavior” during their reported falling out with the Royal family. He further stated, “Archie and Lili are small children. They’re not politics. They’re not pawns. They’re not part of the game. And they’re also royal and entitled to the same rights as any other royal.”
In the same interview with Fox News, Thomas also slammed Harry’s decision to write a memoir, saying, “Harry doesn’t have too much more to tell. After three sessions with the psychiatrists and Oprah Winfrey, I don’t know what more is there to tell.”
Prior to marrying Prince Harry, and the way in which Thomas had handled the newly found interest in his family, it is believed that Meghan and her father were rather close. If you can recall, Meghan once told her father in a letter that was published by the Daily Mail, “Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand.”
In the 2018 letter, she further asked her father to stop talking to the press. Sadly, Thomas Markle has not done so.
“Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband. I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there’s no way out, but if you take a moment to pause, I think you’ll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.”
Any further correspondence between Meghan and her father is unknown. As US Weekly reported, celebrity divorce attorney Mark Gross revealed that Thomas Markle would have a difficult time winning such a case.
Gross told US Weekly that “Thomas’ case is weak due to a previous California law case that ruled that the closeness between grandparent and their grandchildren plays a key role in whether they are granted visitation. … With no relationship established between Mr. Markle and his grandchildren, there is no path that any court would give him for visitation.”
