Weeks after opening up about the brutal bullying they suffered online, even by high-profile Hollywood elites, Courtney Stodden made a big announcement.
Stodden first became a household name when they married 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchinson when they were just 16 years old. The former couple was married from 2011 to 2020 when their divorce was finalized.
Courtney Stodden’s Big News During a Dark Time.
Since then, Stodden has worked on themselves and opened up about the emotional abuse they suffered while being courted and married to Hutchinson. Courtney has also come out as non-binary and revealed that they will be using the pronouns they/them/their.
“My mom personally does not understand it, she will not call me they, she still calls me she and her,” Stodden told OK!. “I mean, that’s just her, so I try to just accept that and that’s who she is.”
“I love her and she’s supportive in other ways, but really I am taking this time in my life to support myself and I think that’s a huge priority,” noting they try to “not worry about too many other people and their opinions.”
Now at the age of 26, Stodden is preparing to walk down the aisle again! In an Instagram post of them showing off their gorgeous ring, Stodden captioned the post, saying, “I said yes …OH and the ring made me gag it’s so beautiful #engaged #stopasianhate #diamondsareagirlsbestfriend.”
In an exclusive interview, Stodden told E! News that her partner, Chris Sheng “got down on one knee while I was crying my eyes out! We returned home from a night out in Palm Springs and in between the rosè and pent-up feelings, I needed a good cry!”
A lot of the emotions they experienced while getting engaged, Courtney admitted, have come from the last few weeks. “Everything within the last few weeks has dredged up a lot of past trauma.”
“It really was such a sweet moment,” Courtney continued. “He reminded me that I’m not alone and said, ‘I’m never going anywhere. I’ll always be here for you.'”
Sheng is a 41-year-old entrepreneur who founded and works as a consultant for several startups. They have been together for more than three years.
“So this happened,” Sheng said in his own caption. “Not how I planned but the moment was right. On Friday, May 28 I proposed to the love of my life and they said Yes.”
They told E! News that they “never pictured myself getting married again.” However, Stodden added they “knew in that moment that it was right and that he truly loves me. He’s stayed by my side through some of the hardest times in my life. I said ‘yes’ and hugged him tight. And then I said, ‘Let’s see the ring!!!’ My head was spinning!”
Congratulations to the happy soon-to-be betrothed couple!
