A high school teacher in Florida is currently facing criminal charges after authorities allege she had sex with one of her students inside the school almost a year ago.
An arrest reported confirms Meghan Mary Rodriguez, 37, was arrested this past Thursday on a sexual assault charge.
Rodriguez was detained briefly before posting bond. According to The Pensacola News Journal reports Rodriguez was informed she was under investigation and promptly resigned from her position with the Santa Rosa County School District on May 28.
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip in early March, alleging how Rodriguez had sex with one of her students last summer.
The alleged victim said the friendly texts from his teacher turned sexual last summer, according to the arrest report.
The 17-year-old student attended summer practice at Navarre High School, and afterward, the boy went to meet Rodriguez in her classroom to discuss something. It was during that meeting that the two allegedly had sex.
“[The student] insisted that this only occurred once and he regretted it [afterward],” the report states.
And after speaking to police in March, the boy spoke with his parents — revealing to them about the alleged encounter.

He alleged that Rodriguez initiated the illicit encounter, according to the arrest report, and that he went along with it, fearing “she would fail him” otherwise.
Police then met with Rodriguez in the Navarre High School principal’s office the same exact day the tip was received. The report indicates that she had acknowledged kissing the boy but denied any further sexual contact.
It was not clear if Rodriguez has entered a plea or retained an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
