When Beth Vancil and Betsy Narcrelli purchased tickets to the wild card game between the Dolphins and the Chiefs, they bought them because “they were a really good view on the 50-yard line.”
What they had “no idea” would also be the case, is that the seats would be directly in front of Taylor Swift’s box, Narcrelli told Today. “Taylor was so down to earth,” Vancil said of the moments she shared with Swift and Brittany Mahomes. “She’s just a normal Kansas City Chiefs fan enjoying the playoffs.”
According to Narcrelli and Vancil, they’ve always been fans of the Kelce family, long before he began dating Swift. Narcrelli is also from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
In fact, she admits that she lived just four houses down from where Travis and Jason grew up. And when they saw their mom, Donna Kelce, arrive at the stadium it all clicked.
According to Nacrelli, before taking their seats, they created a sign to hold up in an attempt to get Travis’s attention. The sign read, “Heights raised” and “Cleveland Heights says hi.”
But when they turned around, they realized that they were about to have the “experience of a lifetime.” “We turn around as we’re standing close to the field, and I saw Donna Kelce arrive to her seat, and my heart stopped. I said, ‘Oh my gosh, Taylor Swift is going to be sitting right behind us.'”
She even noted that Donna and Taylor looked very comfortable with each other. “Donna and Taylor were like besties at the game. It was so cute. You could tell that they were close.”
Vancil and Nacrelli said they instantly bonded with Swift, Donna, and Brittany. Taylor even started calling Vancil the Chiefs’ “good luck charm” after she managed to predict a drive would lead to a Chiefs’ touchdown.
As they told Today, they wanted for Taylor to make the first move because they wanted to play it cool. But once Taylor offered them a high five the first time, they “were high-fiving the whole game.”
Taylor even gave Vancil her scarf after noticing how red her face got from the cold. After all, after factoring in the windchill, it felt like a negative 30-degrees.
“She pulled (her scarf) off and was like, ‘You need this, you’re our good luck charm.”
But despite making memories that would last a lifetime, Vancil and Nacrelli admitted the whole night hasn’t really sunk in yet. “I think this is why it hasn’t sunk in — when we’re watching the game and you’re in the moment, it felt so normal. Like, you’re just watching it with a group of friends and fans, and you do, you get to kind of know the people in your section and around you.”
“But it’s just surreal to think that Taylor Swift was one of those normal fans,” they added.
