On March 17, Taylor Swift kicked off her highly-anticipated, all-stadium The Eras Tour – marking her first tour since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In that time, she has released four studio albums, including Lover (2019), Evermore (2020), Folklore (2020), and her most recent album Midnights (2023).
The Eras Tour began last weekend with two shows at State Farm Stadium (home of the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL) in Glendale, Arizona. It features 44 songs that are split up into 10 different acts and runs for more than three hours – making it the longest concert of her career, hence why fans are excited.
One of the songs she’s performing on tour – ‘Marjorie’ from Evermore – left her visibly emotional last weekend. The song is dedicated to her late grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who passed away in 2003 when Swift was just 14 years old. She sings about how she wishes she got to spend more time with her.

The song also features samples of her grandmother’s operatic vocals – a nod to Marjorie’s career as a classically trained virtuoso with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. In the lyrics, Taylor Swift regrets not getting to know her to the fullest, but also reveals some of her grandmother’s sound advice to her.
“Never be so kind you forget to be clever / Never be so clever you forget to be kind,” Taylor sings on the track. While she’s no longer physically here, Swift admits that she can still hear her grandmother speaking to her. She also sings about how her grandmother’s aspirations and dreams were handed down to her.
“I should’ve asked you how to be / Asked you to write it down for me / Should’ve kept every grocery store receipt / ‘Cause every scrap of you would be taken from me / Watched as you signed your name Marjorie / All your closets of backlogged dreams / And how you left them all for me,” she continued in the song.
As she performed the song – along with her grandmother’s vocals – Swift was overcome with emotion in front of 69,000+ fans in State Farm Stadium on Friday and Saturday. In the process, she ended up breaking Madonna’s long-standing record as the female artist with the highest-attended concert all-time.
Taylor Swift and Her Grandmother’s Vocals Will Be Heard By Millions
Taylor Swift will be continuing her The Eras Tour on March 24 and 25 at Allegiant Stadium (home of the Las Vegas Raiders of the NFL) in Las Vegas, NV. And with 52 sold out shows in the United States leg of the tour, you can rest assured that millions of fans will get a chance to witness her live performance.
More than 120,000 fans have already gotten that chance and they haven’t been disappointed. In fact, many fans were hoping her performance would never end – despite it already being three hours long. That’s the type of loyalty you get from your fans when you’re as big of a star as Taylor Swift is today.
She has three more shows in March, 11 shows in April, 12 shows in May, 10 shows in June, 9 shows in July, and 5 shows in August – her final show of the US leg of the tour is on August 9 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. That’s a lot of shows, but many fans are going to be left asking for more of Taylor.
