On March 21, Talia Smith embarked on a journey that not many have the opportunity to experience. She’s an intel analyst and recruiter for the United States Army, but she always had a love for singing and had a craving for performing. Even when she was recruiting at schools, she would sing for the kids.

Then March 21 came and she was given an opportunity to sing in front of Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper, and Blake Shelton as a contestant on The Voice. During her introduction video, she explained how she had suffered a miscarriage less than a year ago and this was a part of the healing.

Her and her husband, who is also in the Army, found out they were pregnant right before his deployment. Not long after being deployed, they found out about their pregnancy loss. “I kinda just felt weak and, as a soldier, that’s not something I’m used to feeling,” she said – adding it ultimately brought her to The Voice

Fast forward to her audition on March 21 – when Talia Smith sang ‘Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing’ by Stevie Wonder and ended up getting coach Niall Horan to turn his chair. She was eventually paired up with Jerome Godwin III in the battle round – both of them on Team Horan, but only one would continue.

The duo sang ‘Like I Can’ by Sam Smith and turned out an incredible performance. The coaches agreed that there were some pitch issues across the board, but it came down to Horan’s decision on who we wanted to continue on to the next round. He ended up choosing Godwin III, putting an end to Smith’s run.

After being knocked off, Talia Smith had a chance to speak to the judges in hopes of someone ‘stealing’ her and keeping her alive. “You know, this whole journey started with a sad story and now I’m standing here and my whole life has changed. I’m just grateful – thank you for the opportunity,” she said to Horan.

She had one last surprise for the judges before she left the stage. “I want my – my future baby to look on stage and be like ‘that was my mommy!’” she said as she rubbed her baby bump. At the time, the judges didn’t know she was pregnant and only knew about her miscarriage about a year prior – what a surprise!

The second she made her announcement, Kelly Clarkson’s jaw dropped and Niall Horan walked up on stage and gave her a big hug. It wasn’t the way she wanted her journey to end, but she’s leaving with the greatest gift possible – a baby bump and a soon-to-be baby.

Talia Smith Takes to Instagram to Announce the Pregnancy

Talia Smith’s battle with Jerome Godwin III aired on April 4, but it was on April 2 that she made her initial pregnancy announcement. She shared a photo of her in a black transparent ensemble as she showed off her baby bump. By the look on Kelly Clarkson’s face on April 4, she obviously hadn’t seen the post yet.

“ANNOUNCMENT!!!!! SHE IS EXPECTING!!! SHE IS EXCITED! SHE IS BLESSED! THE DREAMS KEEP COMING TRUE!!!!!! WELCOME MY SWEET BABY,” Talia wrote in the caption. By the look of her hashtags, it appears her baby is due in August – shout out to all the Leos out there!
