A mom writes in with her story of motherhood. After becoming pregnant at 17, a petty argument caused the dissolution of the relationship with the baby’s father. How does an 18-year-old cope with becoming a single mother? This is Keri Ariel Hathaway’s story.
We reached out to the robust Mamas Uncut Facebook community and asked to hear stories from real moms about their experiences with pregnancy, motherhood, and more. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Our goal is to share these stories (anonymously, if the author so chooses) with our community as a reminder that we are not alone in either our joys or struggles.

I got pregnant at 17, and at the time I was so scared. I was scared of what people were going to say, about telling my parents. I was scared of it all.
My pregnancy went well, and I had a beautiful 5-pound,15-ounce little girl. The hardest teaching lesson came after I had her. I’m now 18 and the father left. Because of a dumb, petty argument. I was so mad at first, and I was so hurt. How can this be what God wants for me? How can God want me to do this alone? Why was this in his books for me? I have not done much wrong in my life, so why did I deserve this?
I was left with a 2-month-old baby to raise alone, and at the same time also grieve the loss of the person I loved. He made me out to be the bad person the whole time. I was made to feel like the most worthless person ever.
But I have realized: It’s okay to be alone. It’s hard, yes, but it eventually gets better.
Single moms are freaking goddesses and need more recognition! I have fully given up my life in order to give my little girl the best one possible. And I wouldn’t have it any other way! And I have no help from the father. NONE. But I’m the bad person?
Single moms: You are doing amazing jobs! You have given life, and that’s the most beautiful thing in the whole world. Do not let anyone make you feel bad or make you feel as if you aren’t doing enough. You are. You are all amazing!
