Starbucks barista Emily Mejia was in tears when she found out her 13-year-old sister, Megan was cancer-free while at work.
“That’s probably the happiest moment of my life. I was just, I just was in disbelief and it was just such happy news,” the barista told “Good Morning America.”

She went on to reveal how at the time she was in “work mode” when her mom drove up and told her the good news that her sister does not have cancer anymore.
“It was the best feeling ever,” the barista said.
Megan was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2021 after going to the emergency room for pain in her lower body. It caused her to become wheelchair-bound and unable to walk.
Megan described the pain as like a “never-ending charley horse.”
The barista went on to describe her sister as a “social person” and said to see her “just completely change” was “definitely the hardest part.”
“We all just cried and hugged each other and hoped for the best,” Emily Mejia recalled.
Emily Mejia admitted that while they were all “terrified” and “didn’t know how serious it was,” Megan was coping through her humor.
In the viral Tik Tok video, Emily Mejia is seen getting emotional about the news, saying “Mom, you’re gonna make me cry. Are you serious?”
“Everyone is making fun of me because I said, ‘really’ so many times,” the barista said of her reaction.
She added, “I just couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what else to say,” she continued. “When you go through something like that, it really makes you realize what’s important,” Emily Mejia said.

While another commented: “As a 10-year cancer survivor, I could relate to all of these experiences and emotions. I’m so happy for her beautiful sister who is now free from cancer. Cancer survivors and the caregivers\family understand the new perspective of what really matters! Enjoy every moment!!”
Followed by, “So very happy for you and your family. Cancer sucks so bad. I am sending positive karma and hugs and prayers to your family. That sister bond never goes away.”
