Stay-At-Home Mom Gets Honest About How Hard It Is
Bridgette took a moment to run through the misconceptions that people have of stay-at-home mothers, including that they are lazy and not doing “real” work. She goes on to share that, in all honesty, it is “lonely and overwhelming.”
In the caption, she also explains how impossible it can be to have a moment to yourself while raising small children.
“You can’t do anything by yourself; go to the bathroom, enjoy a cup of coffee, read, you can’t even scrub the poop out of pants for the 3rd time in a day without someone crying or screaming at your leg. You don’t get breaks unless they are sleeping; which even then you use that time to clean up.”
The exasperated mama explained that the days are long and messy. “You struggle to come up with ways to entertain someone for literally 12 hours a day every day. You wear the same clothes that smell like sweat and tears for days at a time because it’s already stained and no use in ruining more clothes.”
And as Bridgette goes on, she reveals how isolating this role can be. “My house isn’t clean, I’m not clean, the dishes aren’t done, I have screamed already today, I have cried, and I have felt so guilty that my child was here to witness it. But I am alone…. and I am lonely.”
The post has since garnered over 63,000 shares. One commenter wrote, “I remember the days… it is the hardest thing to deal with. I had 3 littles at home, 2 in diapers and it was hell! But the good news is they grow up and move out! Then we are blessed with grandchildren…They are worth all that hell! Hang in there!”
Another mom added, “I’m SO annoyed seeing all of the “try being a *blank* blah blah blah”. NO. Stop. Let people feel their frustrations. Someone is always going to have it worse than you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be upset about what is going on in your life. Support and empathize. Don’t criticize or try to show how much harder your life is. It’s not a competition.”
And so many more applauded the courage it took for this mom to show the world how difficult it is to stay at home with small children. Give some love to the stay-at-home mamas in your life!
