Simon Cowell recently opened up about how his life has changed since becoming a father in 2014. In an interview with The Sun, he described how he doesn’t ‘work through the night anymore’ and even mentioned how ‘really unhappy’ he was before his son, Eric, came along.
In 2014, Cowell and Lauren Silverman – who have a controversial relationship – gave birth to their first and only son, Eric. The couple’s history dates back to 2004 when Lauren was married to Adam Silverman. She divorced her husband after announcing her pregnancy with Simon.
Now eight years later, Cowell is giving the world some new details about his current lifestyle – including how his son has changed his outlook on finding a healthy work-life balance. Not only that, but Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman announced their engagement in January 2022.

“Before Eric, my life was 99 percent work. I was obsessed with it,” said Cowell in his interview with The Sun. “Now Eric is around, I don’t work through the night anymore. If he hadn’t come along, God knows what would have happened. The thought of it — I can’t deal with that.”
According to Cowell, his wake-up call came when his son started to question him over his work habits – for example, asking why he’s always in bed at 2 in the afternoon. That’s when Cowell took a deep look at himself and determined it was time ‘to switch everything around.’
“After I lost my mum and my dad, you kind of think you’re never going to feel that love again — that’s it. Then you have kids, and, though I never thought I would feel that way, it’s beyond your love for your parents. It almost hurts how much you love them,” said Cowell of his son, Eric.
Cowell even started to change his attitude at work, more specifically how he treats contestants on America’s Got Talent. He explained how he ‘couldn’t deal with’ the thought of his son being bullied, adding he is ‘100 percent’ more sensitive to the feelings of others when judging.
Simon Cowell Enjoys All the Little Moments With His Son
If you’ve ever wondered why the contestants on America’s Got Talent are so entertaining, you can probably thank Eric. According to Simon Cowell, his son will join him when making notes about his shows at home – adding that he pays attention to how his son reacts to the show.
“And I watch him, and if he’s just not interested I think, ‘That’s not in the show’ and if he’s fixated on something, I think, ‘That’s definitely in the show.’ Honestly, he’s the best barometer,” said Cowell. Apparently, his son has good taste – something his father has made a career out of.
Now, although Cowell has been open about his health and his decision to work towards a healthier lifestyle, a recent video of Cowell showing off his weight loss has people seemingly concerned. Many people have been using screenshots from the video above to compare them to year-old pictures and questioning how the producer may have changed so much.
Cowell opened up about his weight loss earlier this year saying he lost around 60 pounds. “The most dramatic period was the first month where most of the weight comes off and you look at yourself and think ‘wow,” he explained.
“All I do is avoid just red meat – white meat is fine – and I eat loads of vegetables, salads, and drink this great beer. If you’re on a diet you have to keep the food sensible, but it’s got to be interesting and tasty, then the diet’s surprisingly easy.”
Prior to changing his diet, Cowell lived an unhealthy lifestyle by binging on fatty foods and staying up all hours of the night. It was these basic lifestyle changes that helped him lose all that weight.
In fact, their working relationship extends far beyond those little moments at home. In 2020, the two announced a publishing deal with Hachette Children’s Group. The father-son duo is working on a seven-book series called Wishfits, which will feature magic and unusual creatures.
