Singer-songwriter Sia is officially a mother…and has been for a year. The rather private performer revealed on May 19 in an interview with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, that she adopted two 18-year-old’s in 2019.
“I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18. They’re 19 now. They were aging out of the foster care system,” Sia said of adopting the teenagers.

In an effort to keep their lives private, the proud mom refrained from sharing their names but added that “I love them.” Sia then went on to talk about how her teens are dealing with being quarantined at their home.
“They are both finding it pretty difficult, one more so than the other. But they’re both doing things that are really good for them right now, that are really helpful. They’re really doing a lot of educational stuff that’s good for them.”
People started talking about Sia adopting a son last year after she was interviewed for a story about producer Diplo. In one of her quotes, she talked about a text she sent him once and the text made reference to her adopting a child, Romper reported.
“…Now that I’ve decided to be single for the rest of my life and I just adopted a son, I don’t have time for a relationship…,” part of the text message read. According to Children’s Rights, there are nearly 437,000 children in foster care, at any given time, in the United States.
“On average, children remain in state care for nearly two years and six percent of children in foster care have languished there for five or more years. In 2018, more than 17,000 young people aged out of foster care without permanent families. Research has shown that those who leave care without being linked to forever families have a higher likelihood than youth in the general population to experience homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration as adults.”
