Almost two months ago, Shay Mitchell announced the birth of her baby girl, Atlas Noa. And in that short period of time, Mitchell has already been subjected to the woes of being a celebrity mother, which include being judged and dealing with mommy-shamers for how she chooses to raise her daughter.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Mitchell was mom-shamed just days after she and her partner Matte Babel announced Atlas’ birth when she posted a video of her and Babel at a birthday party without their daughter.

And most recently, the mommy-shamers came out in force after she posted a photo on Instagram showing herself breastfeeding Atlas while dressed in a gorgeous green robe.
While millions of people liked Shay’s high-fashion photo, many called the mom out for bringing attention to herself. Some of the haters wrote, “Wow talk about screaming for attention.”
Another added, “I’m a fan of her, but this picture just says but it’s an attention-getter. She’s not even looking at the baby, she’s not connected with the baby she’s connected with camera.”
However, more fans defended the new mom. “This is an inspiration, this is beautiful, this is letting all mothers know that it is natural and not to be ashamed. If the trolls would get out behind the computer and actually take in life’s beautiful moments maybe they wouldn’t be so narrow-minded. Shay Mitchell, you are gorgeous and this photo is amazing!! Thank you for sharing.”
Shay Mitchell Says Mommy-Shamers Don’t Get to Her
Nonetheless, in an interview with People, Mitchell told the magazine that she doesn’t let the naysayers get to her. “I know what I’m doing. I have such an amazing support system. I’m having such a great time with her and I just don’t really pay attention to [critical comments].”
It’s something Mitchell is used to after years of being in the spotlight that comes with a successful acting career. She continued, saying, “It’s never about me at the end of the day, it’s about these other people, so I’m just gonna let them say what they wanna say but it doesn’t really affect me.”
And as far as how mom-life is going behind the scenes, Mitchell admits that Atlas has been such a good baby so far that she’s waiting for it to get crazy. “The best part is just seeing her every day, happy and healthy, and the hardest part is leaving her.”

“It’s been the best thing ever but it still hasn’t hit me yet. It didn’t even hit me when I was pregnant and it hasn’t hit me even now. It’s just the most surreal feeling and wonderful experience ever.”
Even breastfeeding has been going well for the two of them, which is something Mitchell says she is very thankful for. But she’s also aware that might change once Atlas’ teeth start to come in.
Mitchell also said Atlas is her own “little person” in that she doesn’t look much like her or Matte, which she thinks is “kind of fun.” Her personality, however, is lively, the proud mom told People. “She’s super happy, super talkative.”
However, she does take after her mom, who loves to travel. Mitchell said her 2-month-old is a great traveler and thinks her little one is going to be her “little travel buddy.” How sweet is that?
