After spending her entire life in the spotlight, actress Selena Gomez is getting honest in a way many of her fans have never seen her before.

In the past, Gomez has been open about her many health issues over the years, including her ongoing battle with Lupus that resulted in her needing a kidney transplant.

However, in her recent interview with Vanity Fair, Gomez is now sharing how those health battles have created obstacles for her future, mainly her future family.

“I haven’t ever said this,” she said told Vanity Fair’s October issue, “but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”

Gomez explained that she has “a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while,” she admits

“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” the actress shared. “I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” Gomez said of carrying a child.

“[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she continued.

“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Gomez also talked about her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco, as engagement rumors have been swirling around them for months.

While Gomez didn’t confirm she’s engaged, she did say that she’s “never been loved this way. He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything.”

In fact, despite both of them wanting kids, the singer said she doesn’t feel pressure to get married anytime soon. “We always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules.

“I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself.” Which for Gomez also means not changing her last name.
