Savannah Chrisley recently visited her father, Todd Chrisley, at Federal Prison Camp (FPC), Pensacola, as he begins his 12-year prison sentence for fraud. She opened up about the visit on her Unlocked podcast and, considering everything that transpired in the past few years, has a renewed sense of hope.

Savannah was accompanied by her grandmother, Nanny Faye, and was overwhelmed (in a good way) by the amount of hope and strength she gained during the visit. She added that she has ‘never felt the presence of Jesus’ more than when she was inside the visiting room and understands this isn’t the end.

“And I know that they’re going through what they’re going through for us to make a difference, for us to make a change. Because whether this appeal works or not, they’re still coming out with a story,” the 25-year-old continued. Her father started his sentence on January 17th, when he reported to the prison.

She also discussed how ‘weird’ it was to see her father without his usual blonde hair – adding that his natural gray roots are starting to show since he isn’t able to maintain his hair as usual. ”He’s definitely used some color over the years, and now seeing him with gray hair. I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!'” she admitted.

With that being said, she was a little shocked and even disappointed by some of the conditions they’re being asked to live in – not only referring to her father but also her mother, Julie Chrisley, who is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence at the Federal Medical Center, Lexington in Kentucky.

For example, she talked about how her mother is living in a facility that doesn’t have any air – heating and/or cooling. She was surprised at this because there are service dogs who stay at the prison, and while they’re housed in a building with both heating and cooling, the same can’t be said about her mother.

“I read an executive order that [President Joe] Biden signed that said all federal inmates must be housed in environmentally friendly facilities. And I’m like, ‘OK, well, this is completely opposite of that,’” she said, talking about an executive order signed in May 2022 to ensure ‘safe and humane’ conditions for inmates.

Savannah Chrisley Talks About Caring for Her Niece, Chloe

During the podcast episode, Savannah Chrisley also talked about her life now that she has gained custody of her niece, Chloe Chrisley – who turned 10 years old last November. It’s giving Savannah a newfound level of respect for her mother, knowing now how difficult it is to take care of a 10-year-old.

She shared a recent incident where she was having a hard time picking out a ‘proper outfit’ for her niece as they prepared to go visit her parents in prison. Something that seems so simple resulted in Savannah having a breakdown as she just ‘sat down on the floor and started crying’ – how many of you can relate?

“I am not my mother. How am I going to do this? I don’t feel that I am worthy or capable enough of doing the job she’s done for all her life,” said Savannah as she had a real, honest moment with herself. Despite her doubt, she was comforted by Chloe, who let her 25-year-old aunt know she’s doing a pretty good job.

For Savannah, it’s something she’s going to have to get used to. Her mother won’t be out of prison until 2030, and her father won’t be out of prison until 2035. By then, Chloe will be in her late teens (when Julie gets out) and a young adult (when Todd gets out). Like most guardians, she’ll eventually figure it out!
