If you want to feel like an underachiever, consider the fact that an unborn baby has now finished its debut album from inside its mother’s womb. The project is the product of Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and Lee Scratch Perry collaborator Iván Diaz Mathé. The unborn “artist” is named Luca Yupanqui.
The upcoming album will be released by Sacred Bones and will appropriately be titled “Sounds of the Unborn.” According to Stereogum, was made using bio sonic MIDI technology placed on Hart’s stomach, transcribing the vibrations of baby Luca’s in utero movements into synthesizer sound.
An unborn baby recorded a meditation album that will likely make us all feel very warm and very safe.
Luca’s parents mixed and edited the audio from five-hour-long meditation sittings into a full-length album while Luca perched and listened in the studio as an infant.
“We did some Super 8 footage during the recording sessions and later we teamed up with artist Victoria Keddie because we love her approach and aesthetic,” Mathé said of the new video for the first track “V4.3 pt. 2.” “She processed the film with analog gear and created a visual trip that summarizes what we felt while creating this album.”
The upcoming album will be titled ‘Sounds of the Unborn.’
The very strange video plays like an experimental that’s visuals completely match the otherworldly soundscape.
The record label released a statement announcing the release of the album writing, “We’re thrilled to announce a record unlike any other, made by the artist while she was still in the womb using bio sonic MIDI technology, with the help of her parents,” it said. “Luca Yupanqui’s ‘Sounds of the Unborn’ is out April 2 and available to preorder now.”
“Luca Yupanqui was not yet born when she recorded her debut album,” the statement continued. “The music on the aptly titled ‘Sounds of the Unborn’ is the expression of life in its cosmic state — pre-mind, pre-speculation, pre-influence, and pre-human.”
“It is the first album created by a person while they were still inside the womb, the expression of a soul that hasn’t yet seen the light of day nor taken a single breath of air,” the release statement reads. “It is a message that comes from a different realm, a sublayer of our existence.”
That’s a whole lot to consider. According to the statement, as the couple mixed the album, Luca seemed eerily aware of what she was hearing. “Her awareness of what was happening was astounding. She would open her eyes wide and stare at her parents, seemingly recognizing her own sounds from the womb, knowing that they were revisiting those rituals that made them come together as one,” part of the statement reads.
“Those mixing sessions were technically the first time Luca had heard her own music, but her reaction made it clear that that wasn’t really the case — she had already lived it.”

We encourage to listen to the track that’s been released to discover how you feel about it this very strange experiment. It’s not often that you get to hear an unborn baby’s debut album and we find it rather novel and deeply relaxing.
We would love to hear what everyone else has to say about the baby sounds. Would you meditate to it or do yoga with it in the background?
