Ryan Reynolds Jokes That Quarantine Forced Him to Choose Between His ‘Hollywood Facing Family’ and His ‘Secret’ Family in Denmark

Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon

When it comes to social distance and stay-at-home orders, it can be difficult for a lot of people. But as Ryan Reynolds explained as a guest on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, when you get to quarantine with your family it’s kind of “the best.”

For those who tend to look at the bright side of things, this time we are spending safe at home is time that we may have not have had otherwise with our families. And that is how Reynolds is looking at this particular situation.

However, as Reynolds also jokingly admitted, self-quarantining forced him to have to pick between which family he wanted to spend this extra time with.

“I am quarantined with my family. With Blake and our three daughters. And my mother-in-law as well. It’s the best,” he told Fallon. “It’s one of those things where it’s a split-second decision. You’re thinking well we got to go into quarantine together, assuming it’s only going to be a few days, so you have to be careful. At least I like the people, I love the people, I’m quarantining with.”

“It was a toss-up for a minute there. Should I quarantine with my publicly facing family or my secret family in Denmark? It was a real toss-up. I miss [them] very much so,” he joked. “I went with the Hollywood family. It’s been great. It’s a decision I don’t regret at all. It’s been fun.”

That’s when Jimmy asked if Reynold’s daughters have been enjoying having their dad around all the time now. To which the dad of three responded with another quick joke. “Frankly, I think it sets a dangerous precedent, Jimmy. I think when we look back at this thing years from now, they’re going to think about me and how I used to be a present dad. And I worry about that.”

Reynolds and Blake Lively just recently welcomed their third daughter into the world in 2019. While a guest on Good Morning America, Lively said of being a mom of three children under the age of six:

“It’s like going from two to 3,000. [We] have so many children. It’s pretty [crazy]. We’re outnumbered. It’s a lot. People say that from two to three, it’s the same, it’s kind of easy. Those people do not have three kids. It is crazy. But I’m here!”

And Reynold’s confirmed that in his interview with Fallon. “It really does vacillate between deep, beautiful connection, and then suddenly it’s like the third act of Aliens,” he quipped. “Suddenly I’m having a totally normal conversation with a 3-year-old and she’s spitting acid in my face and I’m running for my life in the belly of the ship and wearing nothing but a tank top, sweaty as hell.”

In the end, Reynolds doubled back to admit that at least for his family, this time together should be looked at as a good thing, because it could be so much worse like it is for so many other people.
