Actor Ryan Reynolds and his wife of six years, actress Blake Lively, have three children together. And while many of their fans are obsessed with their family of five, the couple remains pretty private when it comes to their daughters.

However, much to everyone’s surprise, Reynolds opened up about his oldest daughter 4-year-old James while a guest on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

The proud father said their daughter has started to express an interest in becoming an actress, which isn’t surprising given both of her parents’ success on the big and small screens.

Nonetheless, despite both Reynolds and Lively’s Hollywood triumph, the dad admits he doesn’t want his daughter to become a child actor. Reynolds told Jimmy that it’s clear James has a passion for performing, saying that it’s every day she’s putting on a recital, she’s singing songs, and putting on plays at home.

“I’m fine if she wants to be an actor. Go ahead. You know, in school, do after school stuff like that. That’s all fine.” However, being a child actor in Hollywood is not something he wants for his little girl. “Being a child actor in movies and stuff, that’s a whole other ball of wax.”

Reynolds continued, “I tried to explain to her, like look, that’s a huge burden on your nervous system. Having to process all of that attention and information. Also, you develop all of these unhealthy coping mechanisms.”

Nonetheless, despite trying to get through to his daughter, Reynolds joked that his daughter just looked at him like she had no clue what he was talking about. But he made his point on the show pretty clear saying, “show business is not good for kids.”

“I feel like we should know this by now, right? But parents everywhere are like, ‘Yeah, that’s just put them in a movie unsupervised!’ That’s great, that’ll be great.”

And honestly, we can’t say we blame Reynolds for wanting his daughter to hold off until she’s older to follow her dreams on a level equal to her parents. Now the question remains, will James listen to her parents or will she do what she needs to do to follow her dreams?
