Naya Rivera‘s ex, Ryan Dorsey, took a moment to reflect on the late mother of his son, Josey, for Mother’s Day. The bittersweet tribute includes a photo of the Glee actor with her son and a touching message.
The beautiful post is a reminder that the holiday can be a tough one for those who have lost a mother or mother-figure in the their lives.
Ryan Dorsey, Unable to Say ‘Happy’ Mother’s Day, Thanked Naya Rivera for Making Him a Father.
The haunting image shows a glowing Rivera next to her son as he eyes a bowl of ice cream in front of him. She looks legitimately thrilled to be Josey’s mom.
“We can’t say the word happy but we’ll say thank you for being a mother & giving me this sweet amazing boy,” Dorsey wrote alongside the image.
The hurt is rather evident from Dorsey in the post as he’s taken on the role of both parents following Naya Rivera’s tragic death.
Further, Josey who is now 5, witnessed his mother’s death and it’s hard to imagine how that immense grief and potential trauma can be saddled on the shoulders of a boy so young.
In January, Dorsey shared an update on his son and how he’d been coping with the death of his mother. “This little boy…man…I couldn’t be any prouder of someone,” the dad wrote. “At such a young age, he’s endured more than anyone should at 5 years old.”
Without even fully realizing it, he lives the #keeppounding mantra every day with his resilance.”

“To everyone that had a tough 2020…you will never forget it, we think about it every day and I feel for you and vibrate alongside you on that frequency…” the father wrote at the time.
“I hope you can find some way to go on with your days, to persevere – no matter how hard it is.”

Dorsey and Rivera were married from 2014 and 2018. And, this year’s Mother’s Day was the first one Josey spent without his loving mom.
