Ryan Dorsey Files Wrongful Death Suit On Behalf Of Son After Naya Rivera’s Passing

Ryan Dorsey, Naya Rivera’s ex-husband, has filed a wrongful death suit on behalf of their young son, Josey.

In Ventura County, Calif., where Rivera accidentally drowned in July, the United Water Conservation District along with the county’s Parks and Recreation Management are being sued for wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress, according to the documents obtained by Page Six.

Dorsey and Rivera’s estate filed the paperwork on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Ashley Bautista, Ventura County spokeswoman, revealed to Page Six she couldn’t comment as the county had not been served with the lawsuit yet.

The family alleges how Rivera’s death was preventable and that the boat Rivera and her 5-year-old son rented to sail around Lake Piru did not comply with Coast Guard safety standards. The documents additionally claim the vessel did not have flotation devices, which are required by California law.

The documents also cite Lake Piru’s deadly history and claim there wasn’t “a single sign anywhere” warning of the lake’s dangerous currents.

Dorsey and Rivera were married from 2014 to 2018. Dorsey penned a heartfelt Instagram tribute shortly after Rivera’s death.

“This is so unfair…there’s not enough words to express the hole left in everyone’s hearts. I can’t believe this is life now. I don’t know if I’ll ever believe it. You were just here… We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn’t fair. I don’t know what to say…I’m thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for.”

“I remember sometimes you used to get annoyed at me: “Ryan can you stop snap chatting!” Haha. I’m glad I didn’t listen to you because I have hundreds and probably thousands of snaps and videos that Josey will have forever and know his momma loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he was growing up.”

He ended the post with sending Rivera off with a heart(s) full of love.

“Life is all about good times and bad times but with Josey it makes the bad a little less so because a part of you will always be with us. He’ll never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you. Love you Meep.”
