See Rockefeller Center’s 2024 Christmas tree in its natural state

On Oct. 28, Rockefeller Center announced that it found its Christmas tree for the 2024 holiday season.

The beautiful Norway Spruce tree is from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. According to the Instagram announcement, it’s the first Rockefeller tree to come from the state since 1959.

“Weighing in at about 11 tons and standing at 74 feet tall, The Tree will arrive on Center Plaza Saturday, November 9,” the announcement continued.

According to Marco Abbiati of the My Christmas in New York Instagram page, the tree was donated by the Albert family.

After it arrives in New York City on November 9, it will be wrapped in “over 50,000 multi-colored, energy-saving LED lights and a 9-foot, 900-pound star adorned with 3 million Swarovski crystals.”

As the tradition goes, the tree will be lit up on Dec. 4 during the annual Christmas lighting ceremony.

This years tree was first spotted by Erik Pauze, the head gardener for Rockefeller Center, in July 2020, the Berkshire Eagle reported.

“I saw the beautiful Norway spruce as I drove down the road, and it was right in front of me,” Pauze said in a press release. “I knocked on the door and met Earl Albert. I asked if he would someday consider donating the tree to Rockefeller Center. His answer was immediately, ‘yes.'”

“In the spring of this year, I decided to call Earl and ask if I could start feeding it and watering it,” Pauze continued. “I came up quite often to feed the tree, and every time I got out of the car, I smiled and knew it was the right one for Rockefeller Center.”

The tree will be proudly on display in Rockefeller Center until mid-January.

Once it is taken down, it is milled into lumber used by Habitat for Humanity, according to the Berkshire Eagle.
