Robin Roberts and her longtime partner, Amber Laign, are making their love for one another official. The couple have been together for 18 years now and recently took to Instagram to share that they visited the Farmington County Clerk’s Office in Connecticut to obtain their marriage license ahead of their wedding.
On Friday (September 8), they took to Instagram once more – this time on their shared account for their dog, Lil Man LuKas – to share that they’ve finally exchanged vows and said ‘I Do’ to one another. While they didn’t share any photos of the special day, they did share a photo of LuKas wearing a bowtie.
“My mommies are MARRIED!!!! Married?…… Yes….married!!!” they wrote in the Instagram caption. Robin Roberts then took to her personal Instagram and shared a similar photo of her puppy. [LuKas] looking dapper and ready for when our wedding guests arrive. Bless you all for your well wishes,” she wrote.

The big reveal comes nine months after the Good Morning America host committed to ‘saying yes’ to marriage while hosting an episode of GMA in January. She was joined by motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein, who asked Roberts what she’s a ‘yes’ for in 2023. Roberts was a little hesitant to answer.
Bernstein offered to let her think about it and said she would come back to her, but Roberts interjected and said she knew the answer – she was only hesitating because she had never said it out loud. “I’m saying yes to marriage. I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year,” she exclaimed.
She went on to explain that she and Amber had talked about marriage in the past, but were forced to put it off due to several illnesses between the couple. Nonetheless, she was ready for that next chapter and now, nine months later, the marriage is official and Amber has to get used to hearing Amber Roberts.
Robin Roberts and Amber Laign Share a Special Connection
In 2005, Robin Roberts and Amber Laign were set up on a blind date by friends. While they started dating right away, they didn’t go public with their romance until 2013 – doing so in a Facebook post that saw Roberts acknowledge her sexual orientation for the first time. She received a lot of support at the time.
The couple have been through a lot together. Two years after they started dating, Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer. While she eventually went into remission, she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome – a rare blood and bone marrow disease – that required a bone marrow transplant to survive.
She had the surgery and things were looking up for the couple – until 2021, when Amber learned of her own diagnosis of breast cancer. She received a good prognosis, had immediate surgery, and began chemotherapy a month later. Amber completed radiation in July 2022 and was on her road to recovery.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2022, Roberts said she ‘barely shed a tear’ during her two health complications – but that wasn’t the case with Amber’s diagnosis. “I’m a puddle every time I think about what Amber is going through. But she is being so courageous and is handling it extremely well.”
