Riley Keough has yet to share a statement about the death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, but she recently made her first attempt at breaking her silence on Instagram – sharing a childhood photo of her by her mother’s side. In the photo, Riley is holding flowers as she stares into her mother’s beautiful smile.
The photo was only captioned with a single red heart emoji, but you know what they say about pictures – they’re worth a thousand words. And it was met with an endless supply of love and support from fans, family members, and colleagues – but mostly fans – as they helped her remember a life well-lived.
Presley passed away on January 12th after suffering cardiac arrest inside her ex-husband’s home, where she was living at the time. While her heart was restarted on the way to the hospital, she ended up dying in her hospital bed hours later. She was just 54 – her death was confirmed by her mother, Priscilla Presley.

Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, gave birth to Riley Keough on May 29, 1989 – her father was musician, Danny Keough. Presley and Keough were married for six years and shared two children together during that time – Riley and her younger brother, Benjamin, who passed away in 2020.
Riley also has two step-sisters – fraternal twins Harper and Finley – who Presley shares with Michael Lockwood. It was her fourth marriage after marrying Michael Jackson in 1994 and Nicolas Cage in 2002. She was married to Lockwood for 15 years before their divorce was officially finalized in 2021.
Although Riley Keough hasn’t followed in her grandfather’s or mother’s footsteps as a singer, she has forged her own career as an actress and has already made a name for herself at just 33 years old. She started modeling at 15 years old, but transitioned to an acting career in 2010 – she was 20 years old.
Some of her most notable roles – both large and small – were in The Runaways (2010), Magic Mike (2012), Jack & Diane (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), The Girlfriend Experience (2016), American Honey (2016), The Lodge (2019), Zola (2020), and made her directorial debut with War Pony (2022).
Riley Keough Was Moved By Her Grandfather’s Biopic
Last year was a big year for the entire Presley family with the release of Elvis, a biopic about the life and death of Elvis Presley – directed by Baz Luhrmann. The film received high praise from virtually everyone that saw it, including Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough, who opened up about it in a Variety interview.
Keough described watching the movie as a ‘very emotional experience,’ adding it was ‘very intense to watch when it’s your family.’ Although she was hesitant to give the film a chance in the early days of its inception, she later changed her stance after watching it and was pleasantly surprised by what she saw.
“I started crying five minutes in and didn’t stop. There’s a lot of family trauma and generational trauma that started around then for our family. I felt honored they worked so hard to really get his essence, to feel his essence. Austin captured that so beautifully,” she said, adding her appreciation for the work put into it.
