Raising a baby is not easy work — just ask Reese Witherspoon.
In a new interview for Armchair Expert, Witherspoon recalled being a first-time mom at the age of 23.
Sitting down with Kristen Bell and Monica Padman, Reese admitted it was not easy for her as she was doing it all on her own.
“I did not have a lot of support with my first baby, and I learned really early, like, this is not going to work,” she said.
In 1999, Reese gave birth to her first child, daughter Ava, with her then-husband, Ryan Phillippe. The two later welcomed their second child, Deacon, in 2003 before they parted ways in 2008. Four years later, Reese gave birth to her last child, Tennessee, with husband, Jim Toth.

Reese recalled having a tough time with her daughter Ava’s sleeping schedule. She said she had to try to “muscle through for five months with Ava, just not sleeping, and [she] became delirious.”
Thankfully, Reese was making a nice chunk of change as an actor. The box office hit Cruel Intentions was released the exact same year Ava was born.
“I was lucky enough to have money saved, and I didn’t have to work,” she said. “But it’s just not a one-person job. I would even say it’s not a two-person job.”
Witherspoon recently celebrated alongside her now 21-year-old daughter after selling off her production company — in turn making her the world’s richest woman actor.

The two were captured creating cocktails together just a week after selling off her production company, Hello Sunshine.
Hello Sunshine had been sold for upwards of $900 million and was founded in 2016 by Reese, who created the company with the intention of changing the way “all women are seen in media.”
Reese and her team are responsible for producing women-led projects, including multiple critically acclaimed series, such as Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, and Little Fires Everywhere, as well as the Oscar-nominated movie Gone Girl.
Hello Sunshine is described on its website, as “a media company that puts women at the center of every story [they] create, celebrate and discover.”
“We tell stories we love — from big to small, funny to complex — all shining a light on where women are now and helping them chart a new path forward,” the website reads.
