In the days leading up to Prince Philip‘s funeral, his grandchildren have been taking to their personal social media accounts to personally remember their beloved grandfather. Earlier this week, Prince Harry and Prince William shared statements and touching anecdotes about Prince Philip, and now their cousin, Princess Eugenie is doing the same.
On April 14, three days before Prince Philip will be laid to rest after passing away at the age of 99, Eugenie began her statement like a letter to Philip, writing, “Dearest Grandpa,” before making a beautiful promise to him at the very end.

“We all miss you,” the new mom continued. “You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days. People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their [The Duke of Edinburgh’s] award meant to them.”
And then Princess Eugenie went on to talk about the things she remembers learning from her grandfather. Things like learning to cook, paint, and what to read.
“I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy. I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day. I remember your hands and your laugh and your favorite beer.”
But most importantly, Eugenie writes that she will never forget her grandfather, because she “will remember [Philip] in [his] children, [his] grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”
But perhaps the most touching part of Eugenie’s statement was the promise she made Philip at the very end.
Eugenie then concluded her open letter by thanking Philip for his “dedication” and “love” for all of them, but “especially” for their Granny, Queen Elizabeth II. Eugenie then promised her grandfather something special, writing that they will all continue looking after and loving his beloved wife of 73 years.
“With all my love,” she signed off. “Eugenie.” Eugenie also named her newborn son after Philip, calling him August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.
