Hearts are breaking for Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.
In a preview of an interview that is set to air Monday on Today, Princess Diana’s younger brother, Charles, who has dedicated much of his life to honoring his beloved sister’s legacy, revealed that he was sexually abused as a child.
Charles told Today that he was sexually abused while attending boarding school in the U.K. by a woman in power. At the time, the boarding school Charles attended was “one of England’s most prestigious boarding schools.
“We were locked away. We were like prisoners,” Charles told journalist Cynthia McFadden. “We were preyed to very bad people’s worst instincts.”
Now 59 years old, Charles talks more about that terrifying time in his life in his upcoming new memoir, A Very Private School. As he explained, though a child when this occurred, Charles admitted he never spoke about it with anyone until he opened up to a therapist decades later when he was 42 years old.
“You kept this inside?” McFadden asked Spencer, who replied, “Yes, and he said, ‘Whisper to me one thing you’ve never told anyone.’ And I said, ‘I was sexually abused by a woman as a child.’”
Following Charles allegations, the private school, identified as Maidwell Hall, issued a statement to Today, saying the notified authorities to investigate “possible crimes against children.” They are encouraging others to come forward.
Heartbreaking.
This news comes as many eyes have been on the Royal Family the last several days. Between new information being released about the car chase Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were involved in in 2023, and the many health issues crippling King Charles and Princess Kate Middleton, a lot has been going on.
It’s unclear the relationship Charles Spencer has with his nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry.
