For the first time since his beloved grandmother’s passing, Prince William has shared a statement with the public. While William and Kate, now known as the Prince and Princess of Wales, have been seen since Queen Elizabeth’s death on September 8, this is the first time William has addressed the public.
The prince shared his emotional statement on September 10 via social media posts. “On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader, whose commitment to the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth was absolute.”

William continued, writing, “So much will be said in the days ahead about the meaning of her historic reign. I, however, have lost a grandmother. And while I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Oueen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade.”
The prince went on to remember the role his grandmother played not only in his own life but in the lives of his wife and his three children. “My wife has had twenty years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives,” William wrote.
“She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will be sometime before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real. I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me. And I thank her on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all.”
As he concluded his statement, William added that his “grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be a testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honor her memory by supporting my father, The King, in every way I can.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, people were shocked with William made an appearance outside Buckingham palace alongside his brother and sister-in-law.
The images captured of the foursome marked their first time together in quite some time. According to reports, Kensington Palace revealed William invited his brother and sister-in-law to join him and his wife as they greeted those outside the palace.

Prince William thought the walkabout to greet the crowds “was an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family,” a royal source told People.
“It’s such an extraordinary historical moment and also a deeply personal one for the family that you’d hope and think that all members of the family would unite and support [the King] especially. And perhaps some of those wounds can be healed in the process.”
While walking around the memorial, Middleton revealed that Prince Louis had a profound response to his great-grandmother’s passing. Sunday Times editor Roya Nikkhah revealed on Twitter that “an emotional Princess of Wales told a group of children that Prince Louis said, ‘At least Grannie is with Great Grandpa now’ while another well-wisher said ‘It was really nice’ to see William, Harry, Kate, and Meghan together.”
Queen Elizabeth II was 96 years old at the time of her passing. The Queen died while at Balmoral, her home where she usually summered.
Since becoming King Charles III, William and Harry’s father bestowed new titles on Prince William and Kate Middleton. Now the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate’s new title takes on important meaning as she is the first Princess of Wales since William and Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died in 1997.
It is also tradition that the reigning Monarch’s grandchildren are given the titles of prince and princess. However, it’s unclear if Harry and Meghan’s children will be given such titles like their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
According to the Royal Family’s official website, when it comes to the line of succession, Archie and Lilibet are sixth and seventh in line, respectively. On the website, Archie is labeled as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet is titled Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
King Charles did address his youngest son and daughter-in-law during his first speech as King, saying, “I want also to express my love for Harry and Megan, as they continue to build their lives overseas.”
“To my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you,” King Charles said in his speech. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May ‘flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.’”
