A mom, who was believed to pregnant, was shot and killed while making a grocery store run in Alabama. According to WEAR, the man believed to have shot the mother has been reported as the father of her older children.

Twenty-eight-year-old Lavon McCreary was shopping at a Pic-N-Sav when a gunman came into the store and took McCreary’s life. McCreary was a mom-of-two, with reportedly one on the way. Her children witnessed the shooting.

A motive as to why the father of her children would want to take her life has not yet been reported. In an interview with WEAR, McCreary’s cousin Lacedric Goldman said:

“She was a great person, man. Every time you see her, she’s smiling beautiful soul inside and out. She didn’t bother nobody. She’d go home to take care of her kids, she didn’t bother nobody. Every time you see her, she’s smiling.”

Following the shooting, a suspect identified as Micheal Mitchell was taken into police custody. Although police have not confirmed Mitchell’s alleged connection to McCreary, the late mother’s aunt told WEAR that Mitchell is the father of the children who survive her.

However, McCreary’s aunt, Josephine Wyatkins, also told WEAR that she didn’t believe Mitchell was the father of her unborn child and feared things would come to this.

“You just got to look out for domestic violence, these people you never know what they’re going to do.”
