Pink recently sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music podcast and talked about everything from her childhood, her relationships, her upcoming album, and – perhaps most notably – her life as a mother of two. The near-one-hour interview is definitely worth a listen if you have Apple Music.
When talking about her children, she couldn’t help but explain how entering motherhood gave her new meaning in her life. While she built an incredibly successful career with her singing, she always felt lonely – calling the music industry a lonely business – but that all changed when she gave birth to her children.
In June 2011, she had her first child – a daughter named Willow Sage – with motocross racer Carey Hart. The couple had been together for nearly 10 years, despite several separations through the years. Their second child – a son named Jameson Moon – was born in December 2016, adding to her beautiful family.
At one point during her interview with Zane, Pink explained how she was once told her career would be over if she decided to have children. While this shocked her, it didn’t stop her from achieving her goal of one day being a mother. When that finally happened, she learned that it did everything but end her career.
“When I had a child, I think it softened me to the world, the part that didn’t understand me. And I think that’s when my career began, really. I mean, I did a lot of stuff before that, but really, truly, I think it’s when I started to really understand myself and understand the world and my place in it,” she admitted to Zane.
And since Pink grew up in a household with divorced parents – her father and mother separated when she was 10 years old after years of experiencing marital troubles – she always felt like a part of her was missing. Having children helped fill that void and now she has an 11-year-old and 6-year-old at home.
“Having a family was really important to me, because my family life was screwed as a kid, and I’m super-affectionate and cuddly and goofy. Just doing music wasn’t enough for me. I was lonely. I was so lonely. It’s a very lonely business,” she continued. The interview is available now on Apple Music.
Pink Released Her Ninth Studio Album on Feb. 17
Pink burst onto the music scene with her first studio album, Can’t Take Me Home, in 2000. Since then, she has released eight more studio albums – one of which, Trustfall, was recently released on February 17. The album was originally announced on November 18th, two weeks after dropping the first single.
At the time, she said the album was the ‘best album [she] had ever made.’ She later released her second single off the album – ‘Trustfall’ – on January 18th and released a standalone single titled ‘When I Get There’ to honor her late father, Jim Moore. Now, she can finally say she has nine albums to her name.
The album has 13 songs and contains features from The Lumineers, First Aid Kit, and Chris Stapleton. She is also planning to go on tour later this year to show off her new music – along with some of her other hit songs – and is prepared to give fans a glimpse of her acrobatic performances that she’s known for.
