Pink has never backed down from responding to critics, whether it’s the media criticizing her music or social media followers commenting on how she parents. The singer recently found herself in a position to again defend herself against “parenting police” after posting images of her children at Berlin’s Holocaust Museum. Pink was visiting the city with her two children, Willow Sage, 8 and Jameson Moon, 2.
In the image, both children appear to be running through the Holocaust memorial. Pink preempted any negative feedback by adding the caption, “For all the comments; these two children are in actuality Jewish, as am I and the entirety of my mother’s family. The very person who constructed this believed in children being children and to me this is a celebration of life after death.” She asked followers to keep their “hatred to themselves.”
While there was certainly some backlash to the post, many responded that they loved to see children having fun. One commenter said: “The first time I walked there, I wept. As the floor descended and the walls grew taller, I was overwhelmed with fear and sadness. It’s powerful. Emotional. Then you hear children laughing and you’re reminded there is life and love.”
And, as Pink and many fans noted, the architect, Peter Eisenman, designed the memorial with the hope that there would be happy moments there as well. One commenter noted that “he wanted visitors to the memorial to behave freely, and has said he can imagine it as a place where children play between the pillars or picnic on the fringes. He has made it clear that he wants it to be a part of everyday life rather than a holy place.”
Since the controversial post, Pink has disabled comments on her Instagram page, noting, “Just a friendly reminder to those of you that need it [middle finger emoji] there will be no more comments on this page!”
“Hahahaha,” she continues. “Looks like you’re gonna have to go tell it on the mountain!!!!! Good luck to ya! And to everyone else; I love you forever.”
Pink Throws Perfect Shade at Mom-Shamers
Earlier this month, Pink posted an image of her daughter, Willow, enjoying a summer afternoon running through a sprinkler. Pink didn’t post the photo with an adorable caption, though. She instead used the opportunity to throw a little shade at the mom-shamers she knew would.
She captioned the image, “Here’s a picture of my child running through water. It wasn’t even filtered. What a waste of water. And no helmet? I hope she had sunscreen. If she slips and falls she may be traumatized for life. And her mother wasn’t even there. I was….. gasp…. working!!!! In another country!” She finished the caption with some pointedly worded hashtag choices against the “parenting police.”
Pink chose not to allow comments on the post, so it’s unclear how her fans felt about the pic. Pink, though, has always been outspoken against bullies of any kind. In 2017, Pink took Willow to the MTV Video Music Awards and she shared a story about her daughter being teased for how she looks. Pink, who has been judged for being “too muscular,” told her daughter, “Babygirl we don’t change. We take the gavel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”
Sounds like Pink’s decision to disable Instagram comments was for the best. We hope that decision brings her and her family some peace. Keep rockin‘, mama!
