Stephanie Girard is a photographer and a mom. And while quarantined at home, the mother-daughter duo found a very creative way to spend their time together.
According to Girard, it all started when her daughter, Lola, saw the album cover for Lady Gaga‘s Joanne record. “We are a huge music house,” Girard told NBC 4. “We listen to music all the time. Lola saw an album cover on Alexa and started asking questions about it.”
It was then that Lola asked her photographer mom if she could recreate the look. So, she and her daughter did.
And when the recreation of the Joanne cover turned out to be a success, Lola wanted to do more. “Just the pure joy of seeing the end result was super fun. Then it was oh, what other ones can we do!”
Now as NBC 4 reports, each week, Girard and Lola find a new artist Lola has never heard of before, listen to their music, learn about them and their style, and then re-create either the album cover or some of the artists most iconic pictures.
Girard also teaches her daughter about photography and all that goes into taking a picture while they shoot their most recent look. So far they have done Taylor Swift to Beyonce to Amy Winehouse to Freddy Mercury.
“We used her ballet leotard and tucked in the sleeve to recreate Beyonce’s famous Single Ladies look,” Girard told NBC 4. “She’s a 5-year-old creative director! It’s exciting for me to see her creativity and ideas.”
So what’s up next? According to Girard, Billie Elish and Prince. However, this is Lola’s passion project so everything will be done at her own speed.
