Former NFL Star Philip Rivers Welcomes 10th Child

Philip Rivers is known for being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Rivers played under center for the San Diego Chargers for from 2004 to 2020 before he went to the Indianapolis Colts for one year before retiring.

When he first started in the NFL in 2004, Rivers had been married to his wife Tiffany for three years. The couple only had two children, their oldest daughter 21-year-old Halle, and 18-year-old Caroline.

Now, 19 years later, 17 of those years spent in the NFL, Rivers has announced a monumental parenting moment. He and his wife, Tiffany, have just welcomed their 10th child into the world.

According to reports, Philip and Tiffany are the proud parents of seven girls, Halle, 21, Caroline, 18, Grace, 17, Sarah, 14, Rebecca, 10, Clare, 8, and Anna, 4, and now three boys, Gunner, 15, Peter, 13, and now Andrew Joseph, who was born in October.

While talking with AL.com, Philip said welcoming his 10th child into the world is “awesome. Tiffany is awesome.”

Philip Rivers and Wife, Tiffany Rivers, Expecting 10th Child: “We Decided to Go Double-Digits”

July 16, 2023 / CelebritiesEntertainmentGetting PregnantNewsPregnancy / By Ryan Brennan

Philip Rivers and his wife, Tiffany Rivers, were already parents to nine children, but they’re going for double digits. The couple recently revealed they have a 10th baby on the way, coming this October. Considering they already have seven daughters, the Rivers are excited to add a third son to the mix.

Rivers, who retired from the NFL following the 2020 season, is now a high school football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama. He announced the exciting baby news during an interview with AL.com, who caught up with the former quarterback at a 7-on-7 high school football event.

“We’ve had one pretty much every two years and now this is the longest gap,” Rivers said of his growing family – his eldest child turned 21 years old 10 days ago and his youngest child turned 4 years old just a few months ago. “We are all fired up. Everyone was pulling for a boy. Even our girls wanted a boy.”

With their 10th baby on the way, Philip Rivers is breaking a so-called family tradition of having nine children – his mother and father both had eight siblings. “We thought we would be the third generation of nine, but we decided to go double-digits – or I should say we didn’t decide it. God decided,” Rivers said.

While the family knows the gender of the incoming baby, they have yet to pick out a name – though Gunner and Peter are likely out of consideration (those are the names of his two current sons). “We are still kind of figuring that out,” Rivers said. “We have plenty of opinions. That is what we’ve got right now.”

For Philip Rivers, one of the coolest things about the incoming baby is seeing how excited his family is for his arrival – including his eldest son, who will serve as the starting quarterback at St. Michael Catholic High School this year. He’s hoping to make his father proud as he enters his third year as head coach.

When Rivers took over as head coach, the school’s football program was only four years old and had just five wins to their name – they were 5-25 between 2017 and 2020, including a 2-7 record in 2020. Since taking over, Rivers has led them to an 11-8 record – they were 6-3 in 2021 and 5-5 in 2022 (last season).

Let’s Meet Philip Rivers’ Growing Family

Philip Rivers met his wife, Tiffany, in elementary school and they started dating in middle school – they’ve been together ever since. They got married in 2001 when Rivers was a freshman at North Carolina State University and they wasted no time in starting a family – their first daughter, Halle, was born in 2002.

They had two more daughters – Caroline and Grace – in 2005 (the same year Philip Rivers joined the NFL) and 2006, respectively, before finally welcoming a boy to the mix – their first son, Gunner, was born in 2008. Another daughter – Sarah – arrived in 2010 before their second son, Peter, was born in 2011.

Since then, the couple has welcomed three more daughters – Rebecca (b. 2013), Clare (b. 2015), and Anna (b. 2019). It has been a couple of years since they last welcomed a child, but they’re excited to have another baby in the house – to use his words, they’re ‘fired up’ and can’t wait to debut as a family of 12.

Philip Rivers spent 17 seasons in the NFL before retiring 2.5 years ago. He threw for 63,440 yards and 421 touchdowns in 244 career games played – 228 of which with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. He never won a Super Bowl, but had a 134-106 record as a starter and is one of the best of all-time.
