Attention All ‘Peace Train’ Fans, Cat Stevens Just Created a Children’s Book In Honor of Its’ 50th Anniversary

This song may be older than me, but as a beloved Cat Stevens fan, I was so excited when I learned one of my ultimate favorite songs was being turned into a children’s book. In 1971, musician Cat Stevens, who is now known as Yusuf, put out a song called Peace Train.

The song quickly climbed the charts to number one and became one of Stevens’ most beloved pieces of work. In fact, it’s a song that has lived through countless generations and you may even recognize it the Remember the Titans soundtrack.

Peace Train was a song that eventually ended all of Stevens’ concerts. While talking with The Chris Isaak Hour in 2009, the singer said this of the song:

“Musically, I was revisiting a very Greek-sounding riff – the kind of thing you’d hear on a Greek island. The words were attached to that time, my peace anthem,” he said. “It ended every show that I did and was quite a show stopper. It was a very important song for me because it stated one of the big goals of my life which were heading straight for that peace.”

And it remains such a beautiful song, an anthem for peace that will stand the test of time. “Now I’ve been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come. And I believe it could be, something good has begun. Oh, I’ve been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one. And I believe it could be, someday it’s going to come.”

Now, you can share the happy feelings you get from listening to this song with the little ones in your life thanks to the picture book Stevens has created in celebration of the song’s 50th anniversary.
