On October 27, White first noticed that her daughter wasn’t acting like herself. After a few days of her daughter sleeping and sleeping, she became very worried and took her to the emergency room. On October 29, doctors diagnosed Tagan with COVID-19.
“She was just sleeping, sleeping, sleeping,” White told KAMR. “That went on until Tuesday or Wednesday. She was still eating and drinking, and then Wednesday night she started throwing up.”
Doctors quickly diagnosed her and sent her home, telling White that her daughter “would be fine.”
The next morning, Tagan was found unresponsive in her bed. White immediately called 911, but she was pronounced dead that morning.
“My daughter was perfectly healthy,” she told the news outlet. “Perfectly healthy. There’s no way that should have happened. And [the doctor] came in, they discharged us and just told me that shoe would be fine. It doesn’t affect kids, not to have her around anybody older.”
Tagan’s father, Quincy Drone, also spoke with the station, saying that Tagan “could have been saved. This doctor told us that our child would be fine, and our child didn’t even make it 24 hours. She died within the next 15 hours.”
Tagan had just started kindergarten at Coronado Elementary School in Amarilla, Texas. Her family shared that Tagan had a bright smile, charisma to match her personality and loved Peppa Pig in her obituary.
“We’re trying to bring light, so this doesn’t happen again,” Drone shared. “We don’t want any parents to feel what…we can’t even tell y’all what we’re feeling right now.”
