The 2020 Academy Awards was a family affair for a lot of the excited nominees. From Hollywood powerhouse Laura Dern to actors Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves, they all had one thing in common, their kids and their parents were on their minds.

Let’s take a look at what some of these winners, nominees, and presenters had to say about their loved ones.

Laura Dern, Oscars Winner

After accepting the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in Marriage Story, Laura Dern celebrated by thanking her dad, her kids, and her mom who were her dates for the night. Dern is the child of Hollywood legends—and fellow Oscar nominees—Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd.

While concluding her acceptance speech, Dern said, “I would like to say a special thank you to the gifts of the love stories in my life. My stepchildren, CJ and Harris. My heart and inspiration, Ellery and Jaya. Some say never meet your heroes. I say if you’re really blessed, you get them as your parents. I share this with my acting heroes, my legends, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. You got game. I love you.”

Brad Pitt, Oscars Winner

Pitt won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. He too thanked his family during his acceptance speech. While wrapping up, Pitt said:

“Listen, I’ve been gobsmacked. I’m not one to look back but this has made me do so. And I think of my folks taking me to the drive in to see Butch and Sundance, loading up my car and moving out here, to Geena and Ridley giving me my first shot, to all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way to stand here now. To stand here now, Once upon a time in Hollywood, ain’t that’s the truth.”

He then ended his speech with a note to his six children, who he shares with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie. “This is for my kids, who color everything I do, I adore you.”

Keanu Reeves, Oscars Presenter

Although Reeves wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, he still kept it all in the family. While walking the red carpet, Reeves’ date for the big night was none other than his lovely mother, Patricia Taylor.

Reeves, who is currently working on the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, refused to give anything away about what fans can expect when it comes to the new movie, E! News reports. That’s when host Ryan Seacrest asked Reeves’ mother what insight she could spill to the public. “Nothing,” Taylor quipped. “[I can only talk about] Matrix, Matrix 2 and Matrix 3.”

Charlize Theron, Oscars Nominee

Another actor to bring her mother to the Oscars was Charlize Theron. While talking with reporters about her nomination for her role in Bombshell, Theron bragged about having her mother, Gerda, as her date.

As People reports, Theron said, “I win the award for best date, for sure.” And Gerda played the role of an extremely supportive and loving mom incredibly well. She couldn’t help but let the world know just how proud she is of her daughter. “Oh, are you,” Theron replied. “A little bit, just a little bit,” Gerda joked back.

Oscar Isaac, Oscars Presenter

Actor Oscar Isaac and filmmaker Elvira Lind used the Oscars as a date night. While talking with People on the red carpet, the couple needed to hire a babysitter in order to enjoy a night out together.

The couple, who welcomed a child into the world in October, are also parents of a toddler named Eugene. They joked, “We might see how much we can push the clock on the babysitter.” How many parents can relate to that when they get a night out?

America Ferrara, Actress

While America Ferrara wasn’t a nominee, she did wow the red carpet. Ferrara is currently expecting her second child and showed off her perfect little baby bump during Hollywood’s biggest night.

Nonetheless, while talking with ABC’s George Pennacchio, Ferrara remained coy about her due date, Romper reports. When asked when the world could expect her child’s arrival, the actress told Pennacchio, sometime “in the spring/summer.”

Ferrara first announced she was expecting again on New Year’s Eve. Whew, what a night for the biggest stars in Hollywood, and their families.
