There is a new big family in town and you’ll soon see them on TLC. In a new announcement, the channel revealed that the new series will follow a mom, a dad, and their 14 kids. Sure, 14 isn’t more than 19, but what makes the growing Derrico family unique is that they are made up completely of multiples.
As People reported, Karen and Deon Derrico are parents of quintuplets, triplets, and two sets of twins, but her first two pregnancies were singleton. Not to mention, all 14 of their children were conceived naturally.
The first season has been in production for over a year and it follows Karen and Deon, the parents of the 14 kids, as they await the arrival of their triplets. However, when Karen learns that she has to stay in the hospital at 24 weeks gestation for the remainder of her pregnancy, viewers get to watch as Deon has to take on the household on his own.
The Derrico kids range in ages 2 to 14. And Eleven kids and one dad can’t be an easy task.
“Having four sets of multiples back to back? It’s like getting struck by lightning while getting struck by lightning,” Deon can be heard saying, according to People. “Many parents know with just one child, two children, it’s a job. But when you have soon-to-be 14, it’s a job.”
One Mom, One Dad, Six Pregnancies, and 14 Kids
And like every parent, Karen says they have their good days and their bad days, but there’s always an abundance of love. And as TLC president and general manager Howard Lee says in a statement obtained by People, they are very excited that the Derrico crew is joining the TLC family.
“TLC has always been the home for extraordinary families, and with multiple multiples, the Derricos take ‘extraordinary’ to a whole new level! They bring a fresh voice, perspective, and willingness to share their culture and values. And while their size may be unique, their story is universally relatable — devoted parents trying to raise their children the best way they know how all while navigating life’s ups and downs. We are proud and excited to introduce TLC viewers to the Derricos.”
