Officials Desperate to Rescue 5-Year-Old Boy in India who Fell into 200-foot Well

A five-year-old boy in India plunged into a 200-foot well on Wednesday morning after playing nearby. The boy was near the bore-well while his father and other workers were fitting a pipe inside. Officials in India’s Barahbujurg village in the Nidwadi district of central Madhya Pradesh state have been working to get the young boy out of the well. It is not known if the boy suffered any injuries as a result of the fall.

“The boy, who has been identified as Prahlad, was playing near the bore-well and fell in while his father, along with other workers, were fitting a pipe inside,” Narendra Tripathi of the local Prithvipur police station told CNN.

“The bore-well is filled with water up to 100 feet from the ground but the boy is not in the water,” Tripathi added.

Officials were working hard to rescue the boy, but were hindered by nightfall. Medical officials and the local police were hopeful they would be able to rescue the boy by the morning. Officials were on hand throughout the night, but would begin the rescue mission as soon as possible after sunrise.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the state’s chief minister, tweeted that the army and local administration were also assisting. “I am confident Prahlad will be rescued safely. May God give longevity to this child, you and all of us pray together,” he tweeted.

At the time of this writing, there was no update on the boy’s rescue, though officials were confident that Prahlad could be rescued soon.
